I was at my granddaughter’s birthday party over the weekend.  The dog, Walter, had to be put up for awhile.  I’m not sure why he was shut up in another room but he certainly didn’t want to be there.  I took this picture at the bottom of the door.

The next chapter in James Harnishs’ book Radical Renovation is titled: Sacrifice:  It’s Nothing if it Costs Nothing.

We will look at that this week.  Think about it.

The words of a hymn go like this:

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me; let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.  With God our Creator, children all are we.  Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.

I seem to hear in my head the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:

“Our Father…your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

There are sometimes walls or barriers that keep others away from us or us away from others.  Sometimes there are walls that we hide behind out of fear.

James Harnish says in his book Radical Renovation that there is something that doesn’t love a wall, and that something is the loving, redeeming, saving power of almighty God.

Walls block peace, and walls block our relationship with God.  That’s why God doesn’t like walls.  If we are having trouble with peace, if we are feeling a strained relationship with God or someone else, look around for a wall of separation… and then tear it down.

I ran across this quote this morning and I couldn’t resist printing it:

“Everything will be O.K. in the end.  If its not O.K. its not the end.”

Sometimes I think I need to read that.  If nothing else it brings me a smile.

I’ve been on the run today, but I’ve been spending time thinking about walls.  I’ll write more tomorrow.

I am reading a Lenten study, and this week the study focuses on walls, or things that separate us from something.  All of us, at sometime or another, have things that separate us from other things or other people.

When I think of walls, I think about the Great Wall of China, or the Walls of Jericho, or the Berlin Wall.  All of these walls were for the purpose of separating one group of people from another.

We may not have walls, but we very often have separations that keep us at a distance from others, or from things about ourselves.  What are some things that separate us from others?  Or things that come between our being the best that we can be?

Something to think about

I have no idea what prompted me to date yesterdays post “December”.

I know that I’m still not completely over the crud, but I didn’t think I was that bad.  Oh well.

I’ve seen this before but I read it again today and it fits the message for this coming Sunday.  Poet Edwin Markham wrote these words:

“He drew a circle that shut me out – Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.  But love and I had the wit to win:  We drew a circle that took him in!”

Think about that

Think about what it means to pray:

“Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Our love for God, the love that takes all of our heart, mind, soul and strength, is combined with our love for neighbor which produces an active love.  And that love is to be about helping prepare for that kingdom.
