As we wander off into life following Jesus, we’re often mistaken that it is our responsibility to achieve an outcome.  We listen to Jesus telling us to “Go and make disciples” and we somehow start to think we have to ensure that people become disciples.  It then becomes our mission to achieve results or outcomes.

But as Brian Zahnd says:

“Obsession with outcomes is, among other things, an abandonment of faith.”

Jesus did call us to go and make disciples but first and foremost Jesus taught us about faith.  And the life he lived as our example implies that faith should rule…and results or outcomes are left to God.

Our charge seems to be relationship, to be involved in people’s lives, to faithfully offer the good news expecting nothing in return but the words of God saying, “Well done good and faithful servant.”

Peace

Jim
