I read a neat statement this morning:
“Love the sinner, hate your own sin.”
Sometimes we Christians want to show our disgust for the sin of another and we disguise our judgment by saying “love the sinner hate the sin.” What we’re actually saying is, “You are a dirty rotten sinner and I know it.” Inferring that the sin of another is much worse than our own sin.
Zahnd’s statement puts reality back in perspective…reality being that none of us have one up on any other of us concerning sin…Jesus’ statement about removing the plank from our own eye before we try to get the speck out of another’s eye comes to mind. (Matthew 7:5)
Looking for a New Year Resolution? Try loving the sinner and hate Your Own sin. I think I’ll try to work on that one this year.
