During these 40 days of Lent as we look back at Jesus’ life noticing in particular the struggles he faced, I come away feeling a little heavy…I catch myself wanting to lament with Jesus over the problems in the world in particular, the sin that is so encompassing in particular. (Luke 13:34)
But while Jesus does call us to lament, he doesn’t seem to want us to stop there. Jesus calls us to be light in dark places, to be color in a gray world, to be the influence that breaks the cycle of sin and produces Life.
These 40 days point toward Easter, the day New Life was made available to all who would accept it. Lament the state of souls…but don’t dwell there…be the light that brings the beauty of Jesus’ message to the dark places where we often find ourselves.
