I have been working on the sermon for this Sunday and stumbled over a comparison that was interesting to me.

Like the word Patriotism speaks to a nation, so too should the word Discipleship speak to the Church of Jesus Christ.

And when we think about the inscription at the Statue of Liberty throwing out the invitation to the masses to come and be free…we should think of those words as an invitation, even a battle cry of the church, for the masses to come and have Life…

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe fee, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”  Emma Lazarus

Oh that the church of Jesus Christ would instill those words into each and every member of the church today, and that each and every member would each day live a life that would witness to that invitation.
