Our spiritual life is a work in progress. At church we should all wear “Caution Under Construction” signs around our neck.
It just seems that about the time I think I get it right, some thought creeps into my mind that is something less than admirable. And I don’t think I’m all alone out there on a limb somewhere, all of us face the same situation from time to time. Nobody is exempt from lapses back into some aspect of the sinful nature.
But again, we are a work in progress, we’re under construction. We are on a journey to be the best we can be so we dust ourselves off, learn from our mistakes, and continue to trudge on.
Understand that none of us get it right all the time but it is our charge to gain ground. We do that, move a little closer to the mind of Christ, by striving to rise above mistakes, learn more of what Jesus calls us to be and do, and develop practices that work even in our sub-conscience.
Use first reactions as a guide. When our first reaction is love…all the time (at least most of the time)…in all situations…we catch glimpses of the new kingdom that we say we want when we pray:
“Our Father…thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
