As I said the other day, I’m thinking about what Jesus said in Matthew 13.
“Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing they do not hear or understand.”
I think of all the times we hear the Word and for whatever reason either don’t act on it or worse yet, don’t even realize how the essential Christian principles should convict us over and over again.
To practice the essential principles of the Christian life requires that we allow the words, the teaching in Scripture to penetrate to the depth of who we are to the point of influencing our life. Just as we are influenced by our faith to go to church and not do bad stuff, we are to be influenced to practice Godly principles.
And we practice Godly principles by the conviction on our heart to Jesus’ words telling us do to others as we would have them do to us, his words that tell us to be a light on a stand, a city on a hill, the influence that adds flavor to life for ourselves and other people as well.
And at least to me, conviction seems to be the key. A view of our faith that is borne out of accepting the words and teaching of Scripture such that we allow those words to hit home with much more than a thud…we allow the teaching of Scripture to make the changes in us that is necessary to live a life of light.
When we are convicted we are guilty…guilty of sin, of arrogance, of a lack of compassion, of jealousy, envy…whatever is the opposite of the love that Jesus expected of those who follow him…when we are convicted of any of those things…then we make the changes that are necessary to put those things behind us.
Just some (complicated) thoughts. Hopefully I can simple them up a bit before Sunday 🙂
