Advent is a time of preparation, we prepare for the big event – the celebration of the arrival of Good News…the birth of Jesus.
And as we prepare we are called deeper into the event…to learn and understand more of what it means that God chose to reveal himself the way he did. God chose the humility of all the events that surrounded his coming, the announcement to the shepherds, Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth, Zechariah, the political and religious situation, the stress of the day, you name it, the event of Jesus’ birth drips with humility.
So if we’re intent on Advent building the excitement of the celebration, I’ll think about how we might mimic the times and allow the humility of the day to affect our preparation to celebrate…
So the question is: How can humility be a part of Advent, how can it be a part of our celebration this year?
