I read a book awhile back about a complaint free world. The publisher even had these purple bracelets that were to be a reminder to the one who wore it…not to complain. One was supposed to go for a month without complaining. One complaint, even on the last day…and we had to start all over again.
The message was simple:
“Quit complaining. If you do, you’ll be happier and healthier.”
At the time I even bought everybody in the congregation a bracelet.
And…I had a few left over. So when I began thinking about the message last week, about being the change that we want our world to become…I thought I’d practice what I preach and quit complaining.
If you want to understand how toxic our attitudes can be, try the challenge. You will begin to understand how much complaining you do very quickly. Go one month without complaining. If you mess up at any time, even once, you have to start over at the beginning.
The same challenge would work for any of our less than admirable behavior. Hatefulness, anger, bitterness, slander, hatefulness…
Just a thought…
