Have you ever wanted to explain something and couldn’t find the words to do it? That happens to me frequently I suppose because some things just have to be experienced to understand.
But every now and then somebody comes along and explains the experience so well that you sit in awe.
I’ve been reading Richard Fosters book, Celebration of Discipline. The book is jam-packed full of so much good reading that it will take several readings and there will still be more thoughts to think about.
What has me intrigued right now comes from the chapter, The Discipline to Service. I never really thought of Service as a discipline. I did think about service – or mission – to be a lifestyle but a discipline not so much.
What really got me to thinking was something Foster said early on.
“The cross teaches us about submission, but Jesus took a towel and a basin and redefined greatness.”
The wisdom in that statement brings goose bumps!
