The Apostle Paul urged the early church to put their minds on what was good and right, and then to strive to live those things so that their influence would encourage other people. I looked through all of Paul’s letters this week, and began to notice that theme running throughout all of them.
And I think, we are called to the same thing.
A focus on what is right and good leads to words and actions that are right and good. In fact, we correct what is wrong with a knowledge of what is right.
So it’s no wonder that Paul tried his level best to encourage people to focus on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellence, praiseworthy… (Philippians 4:8)
Focus on good, and bad will take a back seat, bad will still look for opportunities to find the chink in our armor (read C.S. Lewis’ Screwtape letters) but bad cannot rule us if we are willing to put it aside.
Peace, joy, gentleness, purity, excellence, love…
